CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (9/16/18) – Led by four players ending the Golfweek Conference Challenge’s opening round among the top-10 individuals, the Arkansas State men’s golf team completed the 54-hole tournament’s first round Sunday atop the leaderboard in a field made up of 16 teams.

The Red Wolves shot an 11-under 277, giving them a four-stroke cushion over second-place Jacksonville and a five-stroke lead over third-place Iowa. A-State is also leading teams such as Kansas State, UCLA and Boston College.

Sitting in third place with a 68, senior Joel Wendin leads A-State and is within two strokes of individual leader Thomas Thurloway of Jacksonville. He is followed closely by teammate Julien Sale, who is tied for fourth place after carding a 69.

Also finishing the day among the top 10 leaders for A-State were Zan Luka Stirn and Jakub Bares, who both recorded a 70 to place them tied for ninth. Luka Naglic is currently tied for 43rd place after shooting a 74.

The Golfweek Conference Challenge will continue Monday with the second round.
