HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. (10/28/18) – The Arkansas State women’s golf team began play Sunday at the Little Rock Golf Classic, shooting a first-round 318 at the Diamante Country Club to put it in 14th place among 16 teams.


The Red Wolves are three strokes behind 13th-place Little Rock and within 10 of Western Kentucky, which stands 10th.  UTEP and South Alabama both shot a 297 to end the first 18 holes as co-leaders.


The Red Wolves were led by Beth Ann Compton, who carded a 77 to place her tied for 32nd.  Also in the lineup counting towards A-State’s team score, Aracelly Jimenez Rios is tied for 48th place with a 79, Grayson Gladden is tied for 59th with an 80 and Oliva Schmidt and Kiley Rodrigues are tied for 80th with an 82.


Competing as individuals, Madison Smith is tied for 41st place with a 78, Maria Jose Atristain Vega tied for 48th, Monica Lieving tied for 80th and Marisa Marquez tied for 94th with an 86.


The 54-hole tournament continues tomorrow with the second round.
