HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. (10/30/18) – Competing in its last tournament this fall, the Arkansas State women’s golf team shot a final-round 317 Tuesday at the Little Rock Golf Classic to conclude play in 14th place among 16 teams with a combined 943 score.

The Red Wolves began the 54-hole tournament Sunday at the Diamante Country Club with a 318 that put it in 14th place, but moved up one spot in the standings the following day after recording a second-round 308.

The Red Wolves had nine players in action at the tourney and saw two of their four golfers competing as individuals collect their top finish of the season. Madison Smith shot a season-best 228 (78-75-75) to placed tied for 21st and lead all A-State players. The freshman’s total score included a season-low 75 for both the second and third rounds.

Maria Jose Atristain Vega also picked up her best finish of the year by tying for 32nd place with a 231 (79-76-76) that was the sophomore’s second lowest three-round score of the season.

Among A-State players counting towards the team score, freshman Olivia Schmidt and senior Beth Ann Compton led the way in a tie for 46th place. They both ended the event with a combined 235, with Schmidt posting a low round of 76 and Compton a 77.

Arkansas State returns to action Feb. 22-24 at the Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz.
