LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (2/15/19) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team dropped a 5-1 decision to Central Arkansas in a non-conference tennis match Friday afternoon at Burns Park.
Despite only winning one singles match, the Red Wolves took the matches on courts one, three and five to three sets, losing each by just two games. On court one Pornpawee Pramethong lost to Fuka Nonoyama 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, while Anita Detlava lost to Marli Van Heerden 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 on court three. On court five Shannon O'Brien lost to Rada Manataweewat 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
In other singles’ matches, Shelby King lost to Mei Ishimura 6-3, 6-4 on court two, while Berta Masdevall Masip fell to Yada Vasupongchai 6-2, 6-0 on court two. The Red Wolves only victory on the day came via a forfeit on court six by Amelia Guevremont.
In doubles’ competition, King and O’Brien defeated Ishimura and Vasupongchai 7-6, while Detlava and Masdevall Masip lost to Chunxi Xin and Van Heerden 7-6. The third match doubles’ match was not played and neither side was awarded the doubles’ point.
A-State returns to action Saturday afternoon in Little Rock against UMKC.
