Caleb Garner joined the Arkansas State athletics staff as Assistant Director for Media Relations on July 1, 2019.
Garner is responsible for managing information and media requests for the Arkansas State track and field/cross country, volleyball and women’s basketball programs. He joins the Red Wolves after spending four years as an assistant in the athletic communications office at Mississippi State University, most recently spending two years as a graduate assistant.
With MSU, Garner coordinated multiple All-American campaigns, as well as spearheading a National Player of the Year campaign for Nuno Borges – one of the most decorated players in Southeastern Conference tennis history, both on and off the court.
In addition to serving as the primary contact for the two-time SEC Tournament champion Bulldogs men’s tennis program, Garner also served as the primary contact for women’s soccer (2017) and cross country (2018) while also filling in on an interim basis as the primary contact for the Bulldogs’ track and field program from December to April of 2019.
As a student assistant (2015-2017), Garner assisted with nearly every sport on game day as well as during day-to-day operations. In 2017, he served as the secondary contact for MSU’s nationally-recognized baseball program, assisting with on-site coverage at both the SEC Baseball Tournament and NCAA Baton Rouge Super Regional. In addition to his work with MSU, Garner also volunteered at multiple SEC championship events, including football (2015-16), women’s basketball (2016), softball (2016) and baseball (2017).
Garner also holds experience in professional sport, interning with the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the summer of 2016. Then the Southern League affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, Garner managed game day social media coverage while also assisting with the franchise’s media and public relations efforts.
In his spare time, Garner enjoys timely references from The Office as well as expanding his culinary skills, specializing in Hispanic cuisine. Other favorites include The Blacklist, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Top Gun and Hitch. His hobbies also including running/working out, cheering on the Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves, while also searching for the world's best burger.
A native of Brooksville, Mississippi, Garner graduated in 2017 from MSU with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, concentrating in sport communication. Upon earning his undergraduate degree, he earned his master’s degree in sport administration from MSU, completing a thesis focusing on hashtag use in college football rivalry games. He is a member of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). While most of his life was spent in the Magnolia State, Garner graduated high school from Pickens Academy in Carrollton, Ala., where he lettered in football and powerlifting, while also serving as the PA announcer for baseball and basketball games. As a senior, Garner earned salutatorian honors while also being voted "Most Dependable" and "Most Likely to Succeed" by his peers.
