JONESBORO, Ark. (10-26-2009) - Down 0-2 in the best-of-five Red Wolves World Series, the Arkansas State Red team stayed alive in the series with an 8-3 victory over the Black team Sunday night at Tomlinson Stadium and Kell Field.
Senior Cody Pace delivered a two-run single in the second, and the Red team added another run in the inning off of a Black team error to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
The Black team cut the Red lead to 3-1 in the third when senior Josh DeMoney drove in a run, but the Red answered with two in the fifth to extend their lead to 5-1, scoring on an unearned run and an RBI from freshman Michael Faulkner.
Junior Danny Riemenschneider and freshman Brandon Milhouse each drove in runs in the fifth, and sophomore Kevin Burgi sent home a run in the seventh to extend the Red lead to 7-1.
A sacrifice fly from DeMoney and an RBI hit from junior Jordan Castaldo sent home the remaining two runs for the Black team in the eighth, setting the final at 8-3.
Junior Sam Jew picked up the win for the Red team, giving up one unearned run on four hits while striking out two in four innings on the mound. Junior Mike Zimmerman, sophomore Jacob Lee and freshman Daniel Wright all worked one inning without giving up a run, with Lee notching two strikeouts, and sophomore Cody Powell gave up two runs in one inning on the mound.
Freshman John Koch took the loss for the Black team, giving up five runs (three earned) in four innings. Juniors Drew Benes and Wes Dagestad each surrendered one run in two innings of work, and freshman Josh Fleming struck out two batters and did not give up a run in his only inning on the mound.
Games four and five are scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28 and Thursday, Oct. 29. Both contests are scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
