JONESBORO, Ark. (11/29/09) - ASU head baseball coach Tommy Raffo announced Monday that Valley View shortstop Dustin Jones has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball career at Arkansas State.
At 5-10, 150 pounds, Jones has been a part of two state championship teams with the Blazers and has been named All-Conference following all three years of his career at Valley View. Following his junior season, he was also named All-State, All-State Tournament and All-Arkansas after hitting .494 with 29 RBIs and 41 runs scored. In 2008, Jones' Jonesboro Ricemen American Legion team won both the State and Mid-South Championships, and the team won the State Championship again in 2009.
"Dustin is an excellent middle infielder who makes all of the routine plays," said Raffo. "We have seen Dustin play numerous times, and he keeps getting better all the time. He knows the game, is a winner and comes from a well-established championship high school program, having played for Coach John Burgi at Valley View."
Jones also plays basketball and tennis at Valley View and is the son of Barry and Dana Jones.
