AUSTIN, Texas (5/24/12) -Arkansas State sophomore Sharika Nelvis finished
seventh overall in the prelims of the 100 meter run during the first day of the
NCAA West Prelims hosted by the University of Texas Thursday.
Nelvis was seventh overall in the event and finished second in the fifth
heat with a time of 11.27, which broke her own Arkansas State record. Nelvis
will compete in the 100 hurdles and the quarterfinals of the 100 meter run on
Friday.
ASU sophomore thrower Richard Chavez finished 17th in the
first round of the men's shot put with a throw of 17.62m.
Sophomore Joey Meyer finished 40th in the first round of the
men's 400 meter run posting a time of 48.00.
ASU sophomore William Oliver finished 45th overall in the
men's long jump competition. Oliver reached 7.01m during the competition.
Along with Nelvis, ASU junior Julia Agawu will compete in the discus, sophomore
Chris Nicasio will compete in the hammer throw and junior Solomon Williams will
compete in the 110 hurdles on Friday.
