JONESBORO, Ark. (8/7/2012) — With its first practice scheduled for
Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. and its season opener just under a month away, the
Arkansas State volleyball team reported Tuesday for fall camp.
The Red Wolves held their first team meeting Tuesday and will go
through a strength and conditioning session Wednesday morning before taking
part in the first team organized practice at 10:30 a.m. in the Convocation Center.
A-State will open its 2012 season at the Rice Invitational Aug. 24-25 and will
host Memphis in their home opener Aug. 28.
“It has been very exciting seeing our kids reporting today,” said
ASU head coach David Rehr. “We are ready to get to work in the gym and improve
upon the advancements of the spring. My coaching staff and I looking forward to
seeing the improvements that were made over the summer months and preparing for
our first tournament in Texas at the end of the month.”
ASU returns 12 lettermen, including five starters and its libero.
Senior Allison Kearney and junior Ashley Tipps return after garnering All-Sun
Belt Conference second team selections last season, while senior Jasmine Terry
returns after finishing second on the team in kills. The Red Wolves finished
the 2011 campaign with a 20-11 overall record and a 12-4 record in the Sun Belt
Conference. The team also won a share of the SBC West Division title for the
third straight year and claimed a division title outright for the first time
since 1998.
This year marks the 37th year of Red Wolves volleyball
and A-State will have seven home matches, including five in the Convocation
Center. A-State will open conference play Aug. 21 at Florida Atlantic and will
host its SBC home opener Sept. 28 against North Texas.
