|A-State Football Practice Report: August 16|
JONESBORO (8/16/12) - The Arkansas State football team took a break from their practice schedule Wednesday, but resumed its on-field preparations today with its final two-a-day workouts as fall camp nears closure for the Red Wolves.
The Red Wolves suited out in full pads this morning for a 10:15 a.m. practice inside ASU Stadium, and hit the practice fields this evening at 5:45 p.m. in shorts and helmets. A-State will close out its fall camp with three consecutive days of practice, which includes its fourth scrimmage on Saturday.
The Red Wolves are a little over two weeks into their fall camp, and today marked the fourth time this year they have held two practice sessions in one day.
"Overall, we didn't really respond like I would have liked today," said ASU head coach Gus Malzahn. "We have to do better, but we've got a little over two weeks left and I feel like our guys will respond. We tried to put ourselves in a lot of situations today -- just different things that could occur in the game to make sure that everybody is on the same page.
"This is that part camp where you have to find a way to reach deep down and stay mentally focused," continued Malzahn. "Everybody is going to be tired as a group, but I believe our guys will bounce back strong tomorrow and prepare the right way."
The Red Wolves will open their season Sept. 1 at nationally-ranked Oregon in an ESPN-televised game set for a 9:30 p.m. CT kickoff. ASU will play its home opener a week later against Memphis and also face Nebraska and Alcorn State before starting Sun Belt Conference action Sept. 29.
