JONESBORO, Ark. (9/6/12) –
The Arkansas State women’s tennis team has announced its 2012-13 schedule,
which features a home preseason tournament as part of its fall schedule and
seven contests in Jonesboro during the spring.
The Red Wolves will
participate in five fall tournaments, including the Kansas Invitational in
Lawrence, Kan., slated for Sept. 21-23, the ULL Invitational set for Oct. 5-7, and
the SIU Invitational Oct. 14 and the Regional Tournament in Tulsa, Okla., set
for Oct. 19-21. ASU will conclude its fall season by hosting its annual home tournament,
the ASU Invitational Nov. 2-4.
“I am excited about
the start off another year,” ASU tennis coach Mariana Engelbrecht said. “It is great
to have added one more tournament in the fall and we have a schedule filled
with opportunities to position ourselves with a great seed for the conference
tournament. We are also excited to be playing all of our home matches at
new facility on campus this year.”
A-State will open the
spring season Jan. 24 against Central Arkansas in Little Rock, followed by its
home opener Feb. 1 against Murray State. ASU will open up Sun Belt Conference
play at home against Troy Feb. 3, followed by a trip to Florida to play Florida
Atlantic Feb. 22 and Florida International Feb. 24. The Red Wolves will also
play a neutral site match against St. Johns University at the Florida Atlantic
tennis facility Feb. 25.
The month of March
will begin with a pair of road matches against Northwestern State March 2 and
Lamar on March 3. ASU will then return home for four straight home matches
against Evansville March 9, Arkansas-Pine Bluff March 10, Stephen F. Austin
March 17 and SIU-Carbondale March 24.
ASU’s next five matches
will be road contests, starting with an SBC matchup with Louisiana-Lafayette
March 29. The Red Wolves will travel to McNeese State on March 31, followed by
a neutral site match against Tulane in Murfreesboro, Tenn., April 6. ASU will
take on Middle Tennessee on April 7 before wrapping up the road swing in Little
Rock with a match against UALR.
Arkansas State will
conclude its regular season April 13 with a home match against Louisiana-Monroe
before playing in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament April 18-21.
