LAWRENCE, Kansas. (9/22/12) – The Arkansas State tennis team concluded its second day of competition at the 2012 Kansas Fall Invitational on Saturday with several players advancing to the finals of the consolation brackets in their respective draws. 

ASU sophomore Tamara Slijepcevic advanced to the third-place match of the ‘A’ draw after going 1-1 through her first two matches. Slijepcevic defeated Laura Bouet (UMKC) 6-1, 6-4 on Friday, but lost to Kansas State’s Petra Neidermayerova 6-0, 7-6 on Sunday.

In the ‘B’ draw ASU’s Janie Nowland fell to Karta Bonacic 6-0, 6-3 on Friday and then lost to Lucia Kovalova (WSU) 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Saturday. Ioana Teu dropped a pair of matces to Carla Venticinque (WSU) and Katerina Dikpsavljevic (UTA) in the ‘C’ draw, while Jess Heeps-Eriksen lost both of her matches in the ‘E’ draw.

Newcomers Chiara Stefanov and Sofia Krsmanovic each lost both of their first two matches as Red Wolves on Friday and Saturday. Stefanov lost to Amina St. Hill 6-0, 6-0 on Friday and then lost to Christel Amsallem 6-2, 6-3. Krsmanovic had to retire in her first match on Friday and then lost to Michaela McShane 6-4, 6-2 on Saturdya. Janelle Fung also lost both of her singles matches in her first singles action this season.

In doubles competition Slijepcevic and Heeps-Eriksen won two matches on Saturday to advance to the finals on the consolation bracket of the doubles ‘A’ draw. The pair defeated Elkin/Larabi 9-8 (5) to advance to the finals where they defeated Reddy/Pavlovic 8-1.

ASU will wrap up play with the finals of the singles matches on Sunday.
