JONESBORO,
Ark. (10/5/12) – The Arkansas State tennis team completed play after the first
day of competition at the Ragin’ Cajun Classic with six singles victories
Ioana
Teu, Jess Heeps-Eriksen, Sofia Krsmanovic and Biljana Miloshevska all recorded
first-round victories, but fell in the semifinals of the their respective
brackets. Teu began the day with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Lousiana-Lafayette’s Nicole
Breaux but then lost in the next round to Danela Simonova (NSU) 7-6, 3-6 (3).
Miloshveska
defeated Olga Leyshyna (NSU) 6-1, 6-1 in her first round match, but then lost
to Louisiana-Monroe’s Medy Blankvoort 6-0, 6-0 in the next round. Heeps-Eriksen
defeated Melissa Burchartt (ULL) 6-3, 6-3 in her first round match before
falling to Lamar’s Natalia Mayagoitia 6-3, 6-4 in the second round.
Krsmanovic
defeated Iris Van Leeuwen 6-4, 6-2 but then lost to ULL’s Elarnor Bradshaw 6-2,
6-3 in the next round.
In
other action ASU’s Janie Nowland lost Lamar’s Alicia Porte 6-4, 6-3 but rebounded
with a victory over Southern Mississippi’s Kate Lanier 6-3, 2-6, (5).
The
tournament will conclude on Saturday with finals and consolation bracket
matches.
