JONESBORO, Ark. (12/17/12) – A matchup between two of the South Central Region's top men's basketball teams will take place this Wednesday (Dec. 19) evening as Arkansas State University hosts Murray State at the ASU Convocation Center in Jonesboro, Ark.

The non-conference matchup, which is scheduled for a 7:35 p.m. (CT) opening tip, will also be aired on ESPN3.

Arkansas State, under fifth-year head coach John Brady, is presently 6-3 overall this season and has won six of its last eight contests to date.  The Red Wolves are 6-1 in non-league play this campaign and have registered a 4-0 ledger before the home crowd after notching a 69-57 non-league home decision over Austin Peay Sunday (Dec. 16) afternoon.  Junior guard Ed Townsel (14.6 ppg.) and senior forward Brandon Peterson (11.7 ppg.) are currently ASU's leading scorers this season.  Peterson is the Red Wolves' top rebounder with a 10.1 boards per game average.

The Red Wolves' opponent, Murray State comes into the matchup sporting an 8-1 record overall as the Racers have won five straight to date.  MSU, which is 2-0 on the road this season, claimed a 75-70 home non-conference win against Western Kentucky on Sunday (Dec. 16).  The Racers, who are directed by second-year head coach Steve Prohm, feature three individuals averaging double-figure points in senior guard Isiah Canaan (21.3 ppg.), senior forward Ed Daniel (17.0 ppg.), and senior forward Stacy Wilson (16.1 ppg.). Daniels' 11.7 caroms per contest is top among the team's rebounding leaders.

This Wednesday’s (Dec. 19) contest versus Murray State is being designated as Teddy Bear Toss Night as fans are encouraged to bring a new Teddy Bear or stuffed animal to the game which will collected and sent to the survivors of the recent tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. As a result of their donation, those fans who bring a Teddy Bear or stuffed animal are entitled to receive a group discount rate ticket of $5 per individual.  One Teddy Bear per person will only be accepted for the discount rate.  The Teddy Bear Toss will take place at halftime of this Wednesday's game and those who particpate will have an opportunity to win a prize courtesy of ASU.

The ASU-Murray State contest is also Ticket Redemption Night in which Red Wolves’ fans may trade in any unused ticket from a previous A-State men’s basketball home game held between Nov. 1-Dec. 16 this season and receive one upper level general admission ticket free of charge.  Those unused tickets may be exchanged for a general admission ticket at the ASU Ticket Office on the day of the game.
