JONESBORO, Ark. (1/24/13) – The
Arkansas State women’s tennis team will take on the University of Central
Arkansas in its opening match of the spring season today at 2 p.m. in Little
Rock. The tennis program also announced
several schedule changes.
A-State was able to record a 7-0
victory over the Sugar Bears last season in Jonesboro. The Red Wolves will be led by senior Ioana
Teu and sophomore Tamara Slijepcevic.
Teu looks to improve upon her 11-7 singles record from last season and
gained valuable experience this fall with new doubles partner junior Janie
Nowland. Slijepcevic was 17-2 in the No.
2 singles spot and carries over a nine-match winning streak from last season. Nowland and fellow junior Biljana Miloshevska
will also play key roles for the Red Wolves.
The Red Wolves’ home opener is now
slated for 9 a.m. on Feb. 3 at Ridgepoint Country Club against Sun Belt
Conference foe Troy. A week later on
Feb. 10 Arkansas State will take on Murray State in a home non-conference match
at Allen Park scheduled for 5 p.m. All
other home matches will be at Allen Park, weather permitting.
A-State has added a non-conference
match at Southeast Missouri on Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. and will close out the month
with two conference matches. ASU will
play Florida Atlantic on Feb. 22 and will take on Florida International with a
new start time of noon on Feb. 24.
Arkansas State will start March off on the road against Northwestern
State on March 2, and the match now has a start time of 11 a.m. The Red Wolves will play at Lamar on March 3
before returning home for two non-conference matches against Evansville on
March 9 and SIU-Carbondale on March 24.
ASU will take on Louisiana-Lafayette in a conference road match on March
29 and will round out the month with a non-conference match at McNeese State on
March 31 with a new start time of noon.
