Red Wolves in the Pros

Since the 2009 season, ASU baseball has had 13 selections in the Major League Baseball First Year Players Draft and two sign free agent contracts. Follow the former Red Wolves as they make their journey through professional baseball.

Brad Allen (2010-11) | P | STATS
Organization: Toronto Blue Jays, Class A Advanced Florida State League 
Current Minor League Team: Dunedin Blue Jays
MLB Draft: N/A (Free Agent Signee in 2012)
What's New: Allen recorded a 5-7 mark in 2016 with Dunedin and pitched to a 5.50 ERA with 75 strikeouts in 86.2 innings. He pitched in 33 games with nine starts and held opposing hitters to a .246 batting average.

 

 


 

Andy Ferguson (2008-11) | P | STATS
Organization: Kansas City Royals, Double-A, Texas League
Current Minor League Team: Northwest Arkansas Naturals
MLB Draft: 18th Round (Kansas City Royals) 
What's New: Ferguson went through an injury-plagued season in 2016, but still managed to pitch to a 2.87 ERA in 37.2 innings with 37 strikeouts across three levels. He held opposing hitters to a .191 average, but had some tough luck as he went 0-4 despite solid numbers.

 


 

Zach George (2011-15) | 1B/3B/RF/DH | STATS
Organization: Pittsburgh Pirates, Class A, South Atlantic League
Current Minor League Team: West Virginia Power
MLB Draft: 35th Round (Pittsburgh Pirates)
What's New: George finished the 2016 season with a triple-slash line of .300/.448/.439 across two different levels. He played in 34 games for the Power and hit .324 with a .455 on-base percentage. He hit 13 doubles and drove in 10 runs. He walked 45 times and only struck out on 34 occasions across both levels.

 

Chandler Hawkins (2012-15) | P | STATS
Organization: St. Louis Cardinals, Double-A, Texas League
Current Minor League Team: Springfield Cardinals
MLB Draft: 33rd Round (St. Louis Cardinals)
What's New: Hawkins pitched to a 4.06 ERA in 62 innings across three levels in 2016 with 46 strikeouts.. He registered a 4.13 ERA in Double-A with 17 strikeouts in 24 innings and held opposing hitters to a .226 average. 

 


 

 Jacob Lee (2009-12) | P | STATS
Organization: Cleveland Indians, Double-A, Eastern League
Current Minor League Team: Akron Rubberducks
MLB Draft: 9th Round (Cleveland Indians) 
What's New: Lee was injuring during all of the 2016 season. He finished 2015 with a 4.19 ERA and 5-3 record in 62.1 innings for Akron. He made three appearances for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League.

 

 


Stuart Levy (2012-15) | C | STATS
Organization: Baltimore Orioles, Class A, South Atlantic League
Current Minor League Team: Delmarva Shorebirds
MLB Draft: 27th Round (Baltimore Orioles)
What's New: Levy finished the year with the Class A Delmarva Shorebirds and registered a triple-slash line of .195/.358/.379 in 28 games. He hit four home runs and drove in six runs. He finished the year with a .196 batting average and .335 on-base percentage across three levels. He threw out 18 runners attempting to steal in 2016.
 

David Owen (2013-15) | P | STATS
Organization: San Francisco Giants, Class A, South Atlantic League
Current Minor League Team: Augusta GreenJackets
MLB Draft: 19th Round (San Francisco Giants)
What's New: Owen tossed 8.2 innings for the GreenJackets and pitched to a 2.08 ERA. He registered a 1-0 record and had five strikeouts against two walks. He also tossed 3.1 innings for the Arizona Rookie League Giants and had a save. He threw 12 innings total in 2016 with a 1.50 ERA.


Daniel Wright (2010-13) | P | STATS
Organization: 
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, American League
MLB Draft: 10th Round (Cincinnati Reds) 
What's New: 
Wright was picked up by the Los Angeles Angels on Sept. 4 off waivers from Cincinnati. He pitched to a 1-3 mark with a 5.40 ERA in five starts with 15 strikeouts in 26.2 innings. He earned his first career win on Sept. 30 against Houston. He tossed six innings and allowed one run on six hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

What's New: 
Caceres had appeared in 10 games with the Jackals with one start and had pitched to a 6.42 ERA in 14 innings.  He was 1-2 with 13 strikeouts and 14 walks prior to his release on July 2.
