JONESBORO, Ark. (8/9/13) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team announced its 2013-14 schedule, which features a home tournament as part of its fall schedule and five contests in Jonesboro during the spring.
The Red Wolves will participate in five fall tournaments, starting with the Ball State Invitational in Muncie, Ind., slated for Sept. 20-22. A-State will travel to Carbondale, Ill., for the Southern Illinois Invitational Sept. 29 and the ULL Invitational in Lafayette, La., scheduled for Oct. 4-5 before the Regional Tournament, which will be held in Norman, Okla. Oct. 17-21 for players that qualify. ASU concludes its fall schedule with its host tournament, the ASU Invitational, set for Oct. 25-27 at Allen Park.
“I’m very excited about this schedule and feel it’s very competitive,” A-State head coach Marina Engelbrecht said. “I’m looking forward to the fall season and really looking forward to starting off the spring season with the tournament in Florida. I feel like this is a really good schedule for us and I know our team is ready to start playing.”
Arkansas State will open up the spring season Jan. 18-20 at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla., before opening up the month of February with four straight road matches. The Red Wolves will travel to Murray, Ky., to take on the Racers of Murray State Feb. 1, then head down to Huntsville, Texas for matches against Tyler Junior College (Feb. 7), Oral Roberts (Feb. 8) and Sam Houston State (Feb. 9).
A-State will host conference opponent Louisiana-Lafayette in its first home match of the season Feb. 15 before hitting the road to play Southern Illinois Feb. 22 in Carbondale, Ill. ASU will close out February with a home match against Central Arkansas on Feb. 25 before heading to Troy, Ala. to take on Kennesaw State and Sun Belt Conference foe Troy on March 1 and 2. The Red Wolves return home for a two consecutive matches, starting with Louisiana-Monroe March 14, followed by a March 17 match with regional rival Southeast Missouri.
Arkansas State closes out March with three consecutive road matches, starting with two in Hattiesburg, Miss. March 21-22 against Conference USA members Southern Mississippi and Alabama-Birmingham. A-State will travel to San Marcos, Texas to take on new Sun Belt member Texas State on March 26, before hosting Marquette April 4 in its last home game of the season. The Red Wolves hit the road in its final three matches of the regular season, starting with matches in Las Cruces, N.M. against New Mexico State and Idaho April 11 and 12. The final match of the regular season will be an April 13 contest against the University of Texas-El Paso in El Paso, Texas.At the completion of the regular season, A-State will play an automatic NCAA Tournament berth in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, scheduled for April 17-20 in New Orleans, La.
