HACKENSACK, N.J. (11/1/13) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team was the only team to go 5-0 in the first day of the Fairleigh Dickinson Jamboree being held in Hackensack, N.J.

A-State ranks third in total pinfall with 3,901 pins and only trail Fairleigh Dickinson’s 3,926 pins and Stephen F. Austin’s 3,939 pins in the overall standings.

“It’s great to be 5-0, but we need to make a few adjustments to get the lead tomorrow,” A-State women’s bowling coach Justin Kostick said.  “We got off to a slow start, but that is expected since this is the first event we have competed in.”

The 4th ranked Red Wolves took on 8th ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater in its first match and came away with a 742-722 win.  A-State continued its day by recording its highest pinfall in an 841-762 win over 16th ranked LIU-Brooklyn in its second match of the day and took on 11th ranked Adelphi University in its third match of the day and came away with a 793-733 victory over the Panthers.

A-State finally got a break from ranked teams when the Red Wolves took on Cheyney University in its fourth match of the day.  Arkansas State defeated Cheyney by a score of 781-478 before taking on another ranked opponent, 19th ranked Prairie View A&M, in its final match of the day.  ASU defeated PVAM by a count of 744-720 to finish the day undefeated.

Arkansas State continues competition in the FDU Jamboree Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m.  The Red Wolves will compete in six traditional team matches throughout the day to close out the qualifying rounds of the tournament.
