HACKENSACK, N.J. (11/3/13) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team finished in fourth place at the FDU Jamboree and concluded its first weekend of the season with a 9-4 record.

The Red Wolves entered the championship bracket as the number one seed after finishing with a total pinfall of 9,820 and 9-2 record over the first two days of the tournament.  A-State squared off against Wisconsin-Whitewater in its first match of the day and the Red Wolves dropped a heartbreaker in the first game 185-183.  ASU dropped the next two games by scores of 199-159 and 226-205 before bouncing back to get within 3-2 after winning games four and five by scores of 194-157 and 191-190.  A-State couldn’t complete the comeback as the Warhawks took game six by a count of 195-170 and the match 4-2.

Arkansas State faced host Fairleigh Dickinson in the third place match and dropped game one by a single pin 191-190, but responded with a 182-177 game two win.  FDU took game three by a count of 163-160 before A-State won games four and five by scores of 214-195 and 196-188 to take a 3-2 lead in the match.  The Knights responded with two consecutive big games and won games six and seven by scores of 235-198 and 234-158 to claim third place and knock the Red Wolves down to a fourth place finish.

“9-4 is a decent start to the season,” A-State women’s bowling coach Justin Kostick said.  “We need to find a way to finish on Sundays.”

Arkansas State returns to action Nov. 8-10 at the Crusader Classic in Valparaiso, Ind.
