JONESBORO (11/11/13) – Arkansas State’s Michael Gordon was named a national Honorable Mention All-Purpose Player of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) after the sophomore running back recorded four touchdowns in the Red Wolves’ 42-14 road victory over Louisiana-Monroe.
Gordon rushed for a career-high three touchdowns and added his first career receiving score to finish with multiple touchdowns in a game for the third time this season. His three rushing touchdowns were the most by an A-State player this season and his 24 points scored tied the fourth most in school history.
The Camden, Miss. native finished with a career-high 59 receiving yards and added 72 more on the ground, his third most this year, to finish with 131 all-purpose yards. His receiving total included a 51-yard scoring reception that was the longest of his career and gave the Red Wolves an early 7-0 lead. Two of his three rushing touchdowns covered one yard and the other eight.
Gordon now has seven touchdowns on the season, which are tied for the seventh most in the Sun Belt Conference. He has recorded 355 rushing, 141 receiving and 25 kickoff return yards to give him 521 all-purpose yards, the fourth most on the team.
Gordon was also named a CFPA national Honorable Mention Running Back of the Week earlier this season. Joining Gordon as Arkansas State players earning a weekly honor from the CFPA this year are sophomore wide receiver J.D. McKissic, sophomore tight end Darion Griswold, senior kicker Brian Davis, senior defensive lineman Amos Draper and senior wide receiver Allen Muse.
Gordon and the Red Wolves return to action this Saturday, Nov. 16, with a 6:30 p.m. home game against Texas State.
