JONESBORO, Ark. (2/27/14) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team is ranked number one in the latest version of the National Tenpin Coaches Association Media Poll released Thursday.

After receiving the top spot in December’s NTCA Media Poll, this marks the first time in school history A-State (74-22) has claimed the number one ranking in back-to-back NTCA Media Polls.  The Red Wolves were just recently voted the top team in the NTCA Coaches Poll and now occupy the top spot in both of the major women’s collegiate bowling polls.

The Red Wolves earned the top spot by garnering 224 points and eight of the nine first-place votes.  Nebraska and Maryland-Eastern Shore are both tied for second behind A-State with 191 points.  Fairleigh Dickinson (177) and Central Missouri (159) round out the top five.

Since the last NTCA Media Poll was released, Arkansas State has compiled a 43-11 record and claimed the Mid-Winter Invitational Championship, along with winning all three days of the Kat Klash Invitational.

A-State also had eight all-tournament selections over that time frame as well, led by Ashley Rucker’s three (Prairie View A&M Invitational, Wildcat Invitational, and Kat Klash Invitational).  Sarah Lokker took home MVP honors at the Wildcat Invitational and Kat Klash Invitational.  Stephanie Mims earned the first all-tournament selections of her career in back-to-back tournaments at the Mid-Winter Invitational and Prairie View A&M Invitational, while Amanda Labossiere earned all-tournament honors at the Prairie View A&M Invitational.

Arkansas State returns to action Friday, Feb. 28 at the Central Missouri Invitational in Kansas City, Mo.
