JONESBORO, Ark. (4/15/14) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team earned the seventh seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Tournament, set to take place April 17-20 at the City Park Tennis Center in New Orleans, La.

A-State opens play Friday, April 18, at 11:30 a.m. against the second seed UT Arlington (11-7) with the winner moving on to play the victor of the matchup between the third seed South Alabama and sixth seed ULM.  Arkansas State holds a 3-2 all-time series record against UT Arlington, but the Mavericks won the last meeting in 2009 by a count of 4-3.

The Red Wolves finished the regular season with a 6-10 record, including an undefeated 4-0 record at home, which marked the first time since 2000 Arkansas State accomplished that feat.  Julie Gauguery led the Red Wolves with 10 wins in singles, seven coming from the No. 3 position, while Tamara Slijepcevic was second on the team with a 9-7 record from the No. 1 spot.  Janie Nowland was third with an 8-7 singles record in the No. 2 position.
