NEW ORLEANS, La. (4/17/14) – For the second straight year, the Arkansas State women’s tennis program was recognized for its outstanding performance in the classroom as the Red Wolves were awarded the Sun Belt Conference Team Academic Award at the 2014 SBC Women’s Tennis Championship banquet Thursday night in New Orleans, La.

The SBC Team Academic Award is given to the conference member with the highest team grade point average and the Red Wolves registered a 3.6 GPA to claim the award.  Biljana Miloshevska, Janie Nowland, Jess Heeps-Eriksen, Tamara Slijepcevic, Sofia Krsmanovic, and Chiara Stefanov were all on the SBC Commissioner’s List which recognizes student-athletes for owning a 3.5 GPA or above.

“It’s great to win the academic award for the second year in a row,” A-State women’s tennis coach Marina Engelbrecht said.  “I’m proud to have a team that performs on the court and in the classroom.”

Arkansas State earned the seventh seed in the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament and plays No. 2 seed UT Arlington in its first match Friday.  First serve from the City Park Tennis Center in New Orleans, La. is set for 11:30 a.m.
