JONESBORO, Ark. (8/7/14) – A four-game home slate along with road contests at Purdue and Mississippi State headline the 2014-15 Arkansas State University men’s basketball non-conference schedule as released this Thursday (Aug. 7).
Arkansas State will tipoff its 2014-15 season playing three of its initial four games at the ASU Convocation Center in Jonesboro, Ark. A two-game home stand starts the campaign for the Red Wolves, who host Tennessee-Martin (Nov. 19) in the season opener proceeded by Lamar (Nov. 24). The remaining two non-league home encounters will be against Belhaven (Dec. 6) and Marshall (Dec. 20). Belhaven, the alma mater of A-State head coach John Brady, will face the Red Wolves for the first time since the 1983-84 season.
On the road, A-State visits in-state Central Arkansas (Dec. 1) as four of its first five outings in December are away from the Convocation Center. The Red Wolves take on Purdue (Dec. 10) in the first-ever meeting between the two schools with matchups versus Toledo (Dec. 13) and Mississippi State (Dec. 17) to follow. Toledo was a National Invitational Tournament (NIT) participant and Mid-American (MAC) West Division Co-Champions in the 2013-14 campaign. A-State’s final tilt before starting Sun Belt Conference (SBC) action is at Niagara (Dec. 23) to complete a two-year home-and-home series.
“We open the season with a couple of games at home which will give our fans an opportunity to come and watch us,” said Brady, who will begin his seventh year at A-State this 2014-15 season. “We have a challenging stretch in December with some big games on the road and those contests should prepare us for the conference schedule which follows.”
The Red Wolves host exhibition home games against a pair of in-state schools in Henderson State (Nov. 5) and Southern Arkansas (Nov. 12).
Starting times for A-State’s 2014-15 season contests will be announced in the near future.
A-State has compiled a 78-79 (.497 winning percentage) all-time ledger against its 2014-15 non-conference opponents. The nine non-league foes registered a combined 112-176 (.389) record this past 2013-14 season.
Season and single-game tickets will be available for purchase in the coming week through the A-State Ticket Office by calling 1-888-278-3267 or ordering online at www.astate.edu/tickets.
Arkansas State produced a 19-13 overall record for the 2013-14 season as the Red Wolves amassed 19 victories for the second consecutive campaign to date. The 19 wins not only equaled the 2012-13 team’s output (19-12 overall), but tied for the most single-season victories since the 1997-98 season (20-9 overall).
