A-State Soccer Falls to Memphis 4-0 in Exhibition

JONESBORO, Ark. (8/17/14) – The Arkansas State women’s soccer team concluded its exhibition season with a 4-0 loss to Memphis Sunday afternoon at the A-State Soccer Complex.

Memphis jumped out in front early, scoring two goals in the first five minutes of the match. Kaitlyn Atkins scored both goals, the first of which came just 2:51 into the match, while her second occurred just a few minutes later.

Loren Mitchell, Samhia Simao and Ava Abner took two shots each for the Red Wolves, while Mitchell had the only shot on goal. Amanda Lee had four saves in 45 minutes of work, while Sara Wicks made four saves after taking over at halftime.

Neece Jennings added the third goal for the Tigers’ in the 34th minute, while the final blow came off the foot of Marissa Duguway in the 74th minute. The Tigers’ held a 19-6 edge in total shots and a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal on the afternoon.

A-State opens the regular season Friday Aug. 22 at Murray State. The Red Wolves’ host their regular season home opener Sunday, Aug. 24 against Tulsa at the A-State Soccer Complex, located off the Marion Berry Parkway, adjacent to the A-State Tennis Complex and the intramural fields. All 10 of the Red Wolves’ home matches will be broadcast live in the StateZone with a paid subscription.
