JONESBORO, Ark. (8/21/14) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis program announced the addition of two student-athletes, Sabina Jeresic and Daria Iurchenko, to the team Thursday afternoon for the upcoming season.

Jeresic, a native of Virovitica, Croatia, is a 2014 graduate of Gimnazija Birotehnika High School in Zagreb, Croatia.  She was the top ranked player on the Croatian national lists at the ages of 12, 14, and 16 and was part of a national champion doubles team.  She was first place at Tennis Europe’s Strobec tournament as a 12-year-old before winning a doubles championship at Tennis Europe’s Grill Zagreb at age 14.  She was the runner-up at Tennis Europe’s Cakovec tournament at age 16.

Iurchenko, who hails from Budennovsk, Russia, has spent the last two seasons at Georgia Gwinnett College.  She redshirted as a true freshman in 2013 and didn’t record any statistics as a redshirt freshman in 2014.  During her high school years, she finished second in the Krasnodar Region Tennis Tournament and registered a third-place finish at the U18 Russian National Tournament.

Jeresic and Iurchenko join six returning letterwinners from last season’s squad that recorded a perfect record at home, the first time since 2000 an A-State women’s tennis squad accomplished that feat.
