MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (10/14/16) – Senior Julie Gauguery and freshman Allison Quammenn each posted wins on Friday as the Arkansas State women’s tennis team continued play in the ITA Central Regional Tournament hosted by the University of Minnesota at the Baseline Tennis Center.
Quammen posted a 6-4, 6-9 victory over Minnesota’s Kalyssa Hall to advance in the consolation bracket of singles competition. The win was the first for the freshman at the ITA event and also marks the fourth straight year that A-State has had a freshman win a match at the ITA Regional event.
Gauguery picked up her fifth career victory at an ITA Regional event with a convincing 6-0, 6-4 score over Drake’s Kenya Williams. The A-State senior now advanced to play Oklahoma’s Simran Sethi on Saturday, while Quammen will take on Creighton’s Michaela Henne.
In other singles’ action Victoria Roberts dropped her consolation match to Incarnate Word’s Barbara Kollarova in heartbreaking 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (5) third set tie break defeat. Freshman Shannon O'Brien also lost her match to Tulsa’s Mahitha Dadireddy 6-1, 6-1.
The doubles’ pairings of Quammen and Roberts and O’Brien and Gauguery also lost each of their matches the opening round of the main draw bracket Friday morning. The consolation bracket will begin play Saturday morning.
