KENOSHA, Wis. (11/11/16) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team registered a 5-0 record and a total pinfall of 5,187 to end day one of the Warhawk Classic, being held at Sheridan Lanes in Kenosha, Wis., in third place.

The Red Wolves (23-7) began the day with an impressive 1,157-922 win over the host team, No. 9 Wisconsin-Whitewater. The team continued with a 968-907 triumph over No. 10 Fairleigh Dickinson before a 1,029-863 victory versus No. 15 St. Francis (Pa.). Arkansas State continued its winning streak with a win over Lincoln Memorial University (920-812) and finished the day with a 1,113-1,056 victory over No. 1 Nebraska.

The 5,187 total pins put A-State behind the Cornhuskers (5,348) and McKendree (5,266). Stephen F. Austin and Sacred Heart rounded out the top five with pinfall totals of 5,008 and 4,979, respectively.

“The lanes are playing pretty easy,” A-State head women’s bowling coach Justin Kostick said. “This bowling center has built-in friction in the lane surface and is causing scoring to be high the pattern being pretty flat. We definitely could have played better though because we had one low set, but still pulled out the win. Our spare shooting wasn’t as good as we are capable so we need to improve on that tomorrow to have a chance to get to the lead.”

Saturday’s action resumes at 9:35 a.m. with five traditional matches on the docket.
