JONESBORO, Ark. (12/1/16) – The 2016-17 season for the Arkansas State University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams will get underway Friday as the Red Wolves host the annual A-State Kickoff Klassic inside the Convocation Center. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children and A-State students get in FREE with Student ID.

“We always look forward to getting the indoor season started in December,” said A-State head coach Jim Patchell. “This meet gives us a chance to see where we before the Christmas break and gives our team a competition to look forward to in the fall semester. We have about seven teams competing and this should be a quality meet.”

The season-opening meet will get underway at 11:30 a.m. with the start of the pentathlon and heptathlon. Field events are scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. with the women’s weight throw followed by men’s weight throw at 4:30 p.m. The women’s pole vault also begins at 4:30 p.m. and the men’s long jump is set to start at 4:30 p.m. with the women’s competition to follow. There will be three events on the track Friday with the 5,000m run, 200m dash and the distance medley relay.

Saturday’s action begins at 10:00 a.m. with the conclusion of the heptathlon. Women’s triple jump is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. with the men to follow while the men’s high jump will begin at noon with the women following. Men’s pole vault and men’s shot put begin at 1:00 p.m. with the women’s shot put to follow.

The action on the track Saturday begins at 11:30 a.m. with preliminaries in the 55m dash and 55m hurdles. Finals begin at 2:00 p.m. for the 55m dash and 55m hurdles with a rolling schedule for the remainder of the events.

A-State is scheduled for five additional indoor meets before the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 20-21 in Birmingham, Ala. The Red Wolves host the A-State Invitational & Multis Jan. 27-28 at the Convocation Center.
