PVB Tabs Schaedig, Warrington as All-Americans
JONESBORO, Ark. (12/23/16) – A couple of more honors rolled in for A-State seniors Markie Schaedig and Mallory Warrington with PrepVolleyball.com tabbing the pair as Honorable Mention All-Americans Friday in an announcement by the online publication.
A native of Little Rock, Ark., Schaedig was recently named Honorable Mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, which was the second time in her career to be chosen. Additionally, she was also named to the AVCA Southwest All-Region Team after accumulating 609 digs (5.30 per set), which is the eighth most in a single season in school history. The 5.30 digs per set mark ranked 11th in the nation, while the 609 digs were 19th most.
The senior libero registered her third consecutive Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year award and claimed two Defensive Player of the Week awards this season to give her 12 for her career, which is tied for the most in league history. Schaedig leaves A-State with the third-most career digs in school history with 2,153.
Warrington, a native of Lake St. Louis, Mo., put together an outstanding 2016 campaign with 1,372 assists for an 11.93 per set average. The 11.93 per set mark ranked as second in the nation, while the 1,372 helpers were eighth most. She claimed the SBC Setter of the Year honor for the second straight season and won 10 of the league’s 12 Setter of the Week awards to give her 16 career weekly honors.
Additionally, the senior setter added 342 digs on the year and became the ninth member of the 1,000-1,000 Club as she finished her sensational career with 4,296 assists (ranked third in school history) and 1,183 digs. Warrington was named to the AVCA Southwest All-Region Team for the second time in her career and this is the first All-American accolade she’s ever received.
