JONESBORO, Ark. (11/6/16) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team dropped its season opening dual match in heartbreaking fashion with a 4-3 loss to Southeast Missouri Friday afternoon at the indoor courts at RidgePointe Country Club.

The Red Wolves dropped the doubles’ point, and quickly fell behind 3-0 after dropping two singles’ matches, battled back to capture three wins. Senior Julie Gauguery came back to win her match against Isabella Krupa after dropping the first set to take a 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 victory.

Victoria Pisani also earned a win over Annisa Warasanti with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win in the No. 4 singles’ match, while Allison Quammen earned a 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Anais Emelie in the No. 6 match.

Sabina Jeresic dropped the No. 2 match in straight sets 6-3, 6-0, while Shannon O’Brien also lost in straight sets in the No. 3 match 6-4, 6-3. Tori Roberts rounded out the day with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 loss in the No. 5 match.

In doubles’ competition Gauguery and O’Brien dropped the No. 1 singles match 6-2, while Pisani and Jeresic lost their matchup in the No. 2 match 6-3. The No. 3 was not completed after the point was determined.

A-State was scheduled to take on UCA in Conway on Saturday, Jan. 28, but the match has been postponed due to a scheduling conflict.

The Red Wolves return home to host Ole Miss in a doubleheader on Feb. 3. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
