RIO VERDE, Ariz. (2/25/17) – Senior Maci Brooks shot a one-under 71 Saturday to lead the Arkansas State women’s golf team during the Rio Verde Invitational’s second round, which saw the Red Wolves record a 295 as they climbed one spot in the standings to seventh place among 19 competing teams.

The Red Wolves’ 295 was not only their second best score this season, it tied their fourth lowest round at a road tournament over the last 12 years. They cut 14 strokes off their first-round total shot yesterday at the Rio Verde Country Club.

A-State’s score tied the third best round of the day among all competing teams as all five of its players either improved or matched their first-round score.

Holding a 604 combined total for the first two rounds, Arkansas State is currently just two strokes behind three teams tied for fourth place and within six strokes of third-place Northern Illinois. UMKC sits atop the standings with a 591, while Eastern Michigan stands second with a 597.

Tied for eighth place, sophomore Beth Ann Compton remains A-State’s individual overall leader. Compton recorded a second-round 72, improving her first round score by two strokes and giving her a combined 146.

Joining her among the top-25 leaders, Aracelly Jimenez Rios stayed tied for 17th place after posting a 75 for the second consecutive day. Brooks made the biggest jump of the day by an A-State golfer, moving from tied for 68th place to tied for 30th. Her second-round 71 tied her season-best score, and she now has a combined 152.

Also competing for the Red Wolves, Emma Miller and Marisa Marquez both hold a combined 158 score and are tied for 65th place.

The Rio Verde Invitational’s third-and-final round is set be played Sunday.
