LINCOLN, Neb. (3/2/17) – The Arkansas State women’s bowling team posted a total pinfall of 4,414 to lead the field at end of the first day of the Big Red Invitational Thursday night at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb.

The Red Wolves posted a 2-1 record to improve to 63-28 on the year. The team had a bye in its first match and posted a pinfall of 1,066 before registering a seven-pin win over No. 10 Central Missouri by a score of 999-992. A-State put together an impressive 1,192 score to Maryville’s 858 for another win, but dropped a high-scoring 1,195-1,157 decision to host Nebraska in its final match of the day.

“We played really well today so we deserve to be in the lead,” A-State head women’s bowling coach Justin Kostick said. “This tournament is high scoring as you saw in the match against Nebraska. We averaged 230 a game and they put up 240, not much you can do about that. We have to be ready to throw a lot of strikes tomorrow to keep up the pace.”

Arkansas State’s 4,414 leads second-place Nebraska’s 4,367 with McKendree not too far behind with a total of 4,301 pins. Wisconsin-Whitewater is fourth with 3,947 pins and Valparaiso’s total pinfall of 3,854 is fifth.

Saturday’s competition begins at 10:25 a.m. and will feature five traditional team matches.
