A-State Tennis Yields 5-2 Decision at UCA
JONESBORO, Ark. (3/4/17) – Arkansas State senior Julie Gauguery improved her singles’ record to 8-2 on the year, but it was not enough as the A-State tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to Central Arkansas Sunday afternoon at the UCA Tennis Courts.
Gauguery, who has now won eight of 10 matches to start the year, defeated Pornpawee Pramething 6-3, 6-4 as she continued her impressive start the season. Sabina Jeresic also captured her third victory when Hee-Jin Oh retired from the match with Jeresic leading 5-2 in the first set.
“We played really well in several spots but we just could not make it last long enough to break them down to come away the wins,” A-State tennis coach Kel Lange said. “Julie continues to play really well and is a spark for our team. What she has been able to do this season has been really impressive.”
In other singles’ competition Shannon O'Brien lost to QiLi Ma 6-0, 7-6, while Victoria Pisani was defeated by Amiru Shumoguchi 6-2, 6-1. Tori Roberts suffered a 6-1, 6-1 setback against Marli Van Heerden and Allison Quammen was downed by Rada Manataweewat 6-4, 7-5.
In the doubles’ point, Gauguery and O’Brien lost to Pramethong and Shimoguchi 6-3, while Quammen and Roberts lost to Van Heerden and Oh 6-2.
