COLLEGE STATION, Texas. (3/11/17) – Arkansas State junior sprinter Jaylen Bacon earned bronze in the 60-meter dash final at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday.

Bacon placed third with a time of 6.56 seconds once again breaking his own school record. He entered the final fifth with a time of 6.57 seconds, but placed third behind Christian Coleman of Tennessee (6.45) and Cameron Burrell of Houston (6.54).

“Jaylen has had a great indoor season,” said A-State head coach Jim Patchell. “He’s a great competitor and we are all proud of him. We look forward to seeing what he can do outdoors now.”

The podium finish marks just the second on the track by an A-State male athlete at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Thomas Hill is the only other sprinter or hurdler to earn a medal as he won the national title in the 55-meter hurdles back in 1970. The A-State men’s team now has eight top-three finishes at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

The Red Wolves track and field teams now gear up for outdoor season. The slate begins Friday and Saturday with the Red Wolves visiting Mississippi State for the Mississippi State Relays.
