JONESBORO, Ark. (3/11/17) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision against Southern Illinois at the Indoor Courts at the RidgePointe Country Club on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Julie Gauguery won her ninth match of the dual match season with a thrilling 6-2, 7-6 victory over the Saluki’s Xiwie Cai. Gauguery had no issues in her first set victory, but fell behind 4-2 in the second set before rallying to take a 6-5 advantage to force the extra game. After both sides battled, the senior from France put the point away with a strong shot to the far side of the court for the winner.

Victoria Pisani had a strong outing in the No. 3 match despite a 6-4, 6-4 loss to Meagan Monaghan. Pisani nearly pulled off comeback wins in each set after falling behind early, but rallying in the middle part of the match to tie the score at 4-4 in each set.

In other singles’ matches Sabina Jeresic lost to Ana Sofia Cordero 6-3, 6-3, while Allison Quammen lost to Yana Golovkina 6-3, 6-1. Both Shannon O'Brien and Tori Roberts did not finish their matches after the match clincher was determined.

In the doubles’ point, Pisani and Jeresic lost to Vitoria Beiora and Monaghan 6-3, while O’Brien and Roberts nearly pulled off a victory with a 7-6 loss to Cordero and Cai. Gauguery and Quammen were leading in their doubles’ match when the point had been decided.

A-State continues on its four match home stand with a tilt against La Tech on Saturday, March 18. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the A-State Tennis Courts.
