A-State Stands 5th at Bradley Spring Break Invite

DALLAS (3/13/14) – The Arkansas State women’s golf team began play Monday at the Bradley Spring Break Invitational by shooting a combined 624 that placed it fifth among 10 teams through the 54-hole tournament’s first two rounds.

The Red Wolves posted an opening-round 317 and followed with a 307 for the second 18 holes played at the Brookhaven Country Club.  A-State is currently one stroke ahead of Illinois State and within three of fourth-place Southern Illinois.  Northern Illinois leads the field with a 597, while Bradley stands second with a 608 and Wichita State third with a 613.

A-State was led by two players completing the opening day among the top 16 leaders, including Aracelly Jimenez Rios in fourth place with a 147 (71-76).  The sophomore is only one stroke behind two players tied for second place, while Brielle Ward of Northern Illinois sits atop the standings after posting a 139.

Joining Jimenez Rios among the top-20 leaders for A-State was Beth Ann Compton, who shot a 155 (80-75) to put her in a tie for 16th place.

Also competing for Arkansas State, Emma Miller (81-80) and Marisa Marquez (85-76) are tied for 28th place after recording a 161.  Grayson Gladden, participating as an individual, is tied for 40th place with a 167 (86-81) and Olivia Loiacano is in 51st with a 172 (86-86).

The Bradley Spring Break Invitational’s third-and-final round is set to be played Tuesday.
