Red Wolves Earn Seven Top Finishes at Bulldog Relays
STARKVILLE, Miss. (3/18/17) – Arkansas State earned seven top finishes, 17 top five marks and 31 total top-10 finishes in the outdoor track and field season opener at the Bulldog Relays hosted by Mississippi State this weekend.
“Overall, a pretty good start to the outdoor season,” said A-State head coach Jim Patchell. “We use the early meets as an extension to our training and we saw some good things. Cristian had a great meet setting the school record in the hammer throw. That mark will also get him into the regional meet.”
Junior Cristian Ravar Ladislau set a school record in the hammer throw with a launch of 66.46m (218-00.75). That marks breaks the record previously set in 2005 by Candon Powell (64.95m/213-01.00).
One week after his bronze medal finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships, junior Jaylen Bacon opened his outdoor season in the 100-meter dash. He flashed a time of 10.19 seconds to win the event.
Led by Erin Farmer, the Red Wolves had three finish in the top seven of the shot put. Farmer posted a throw of 17.17m (56-04.00) to win the event while Calea Carr tied for third with a mark of 13.79m (45-03.00) and Daniell Lorenz was seventh with a throw of 12.78m (41-11.25). Carr added a pair of top five finishes placing second in the discus throw (47.88m/157-01.25) and fourth in the hammer throw (52.04m/170-09.00).
Freshman Heinrich Herbst took first place in the 1,500-meter run by clocking a time of 3:51.31. That time ranks as the seventh-fastest in program history. Freshman Amari James earned top honors in the triple jump with a leap of 14.45m (47-05.00).
Senior Viktoriia Sadokhina placed first in the women’s triple jump. She posted a leap of 12.54m (41-01.75), the fifth-best jump in program history.
A-State had three individuals in the top-five of the women’s pole vault. Freshman Sarah Michael was the top finisher clearing 3.55m (11-07.75) while freshmen Nada Buntic and Lauren Smith tied for third with clearances of 3.25m (10-08.00).
Others earning top-10 finishes were; Rickus Jacobs in the 5,000-meter run (4th – 15:11.39), Jonah Wiley in long jump (4th – 7.22m/23-08.25), Clint Ligon in high jump (4th – 1.85m/6-00.75), Annette Gaskins in long jump (4th – 5.73m/18-09.75), Nick Hilson in the 400-meter dash (5th – 48.90), Amari James in 110-meter hurdles (6th – 14.82), Arabriaun Mack in the triple jump (6th – 10.66m/34-11.75), Nada Buntic in high jump (6th – 1.50m/4-11.00), Chris Collins in javelin throw (6th – 61.96m/203-03.75), Arabriaun Mack in the long jump (6th – 5.59m/18-04.25), Coleton Clifft in long jump (7th – 6.81m/22-04.25), Trevene Cowan in the 400-meter dash (7th – 1:00.60), Hayden Hampton in discus throw (7th – 37.77m/123-11.25), Anaelle Charles in the 1,500-meter run (8th – 4:46.71), Gracee Damron in 100-meter hurdles (9th – 15.08), Grace Flowers in discus throw (9th – 41.19m/135-02.00), Shemiah Brooks in 200-meter dash (10th – 25.32), Hayden Hampton in the 110-meter hurdles (10th – 16.59) and Brianna Hardiman in long jump (10th – 5.38m/17-08.00).
The Red Wolves are scheduled to compete next weekend (March 24-25) at the Joe Walker Invitational in Oxford, Miss.
