Arkansas State head men’s basketball coach Mike Balado announced the hiring of Josh Pierre as Director of Basketball Operations.
As the Red Wolves’ director of basketball operations, Pierre will be tasked with handling the daily operations of the program, coordinating travel itineraries, assisting with scouting videos and overseeing the team’s student managers. He will also oversee the operation of basketball camps.
“After meeting with this young man on my first day, it blew my mind how prepared, enthusiastic, organized and ready Josh was for a position like this,” Balado said. “He is loyal to this university, a Red Wolf at heart, and I am truly blessed that he decided to be a part of this incredible journey.”
A four-year letterwinner (2012-16) for the Red Wolves, Pierre will embark on his sixth consecutive season with the program when the 2017-18 season begins. Last season, Pierre served as a graduate assistant, aiding in scouting reports, practice and game planning and the day-to-day operations of the program.
“I am beyond grateful for the opportunity that Coach Balado has entrusted me with in joining his basketball staff,” Pierre said. “He is a proven winner and comes from the most elite basketball family in the history of college basketball. I’m excited to learn from him and his staff each day and compete for championships at Arkansas State University.”
During his first two seasons at A-State, Pierre and the Red Wolves earned a Sun Belt Conference Western Division Championship (2012-13) and compiled back-to-back 19 win seasons for the first time in 24 years. He competed in 44 games over his four years and led the nation in walk-on minutes per game (13.2) during conference play in 2015-16. In addition to being named to the Sun Belt Academic Honor Roll, Athletic Directors Honor Roll and Dean’s List, he was voted ‘Best Teammate’ by his teammates and coaching staff each season as a student-athlete.
Pierre graduated from Arkansas State in December of 2015 with a B.S. in Sports Management and he is currently pursuing his M.S. in Sports Administration. He is a Pike Alumni and served as the fraternities’ Spiritual Chair each year as a member. He was also a recipient of the Dr. Warren and Lu L. Nedrow Scholarship for Distinguished Alumni.
Pierre is the son of Butch and Clemmie Pierre. His father has over 30 years of coaching experience while his twin brother, Joe, is currently a graduate assistant at Middle Tennessee. His mother graduated from the University of Kentucky. He also has a sister, Langley, who is a high school teacher and graduate of LSU.
