JONESBORO, Ark. (4/10/17) – Arkansas State senior outfielder Garrett Rucker has been named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week per an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.

Rucker put together a solid week for A-State as the Red Wolves went 4-1 over the nomination period. The Arkadelphia, Ark., native hit .421 (8-for-19) during the week with an on-base percentage of .478 and slugging percentage of .579. He had 11 RBI in the team’s five games and had at least one run driven in during each of A-State’s five games, including multiple RBI in three of the contests.

He also scored six runs, hit three doubles, had three walks, and two stolen bases. Rucker’s best game came in the beginning of the week with a four-RBI performance in the 10-1 victory over SEMO with both of his hits being doubles. Additionally, he played excellent defense in center field with no errors and had an outfield assists. He also made a diving catch with his back to home plate in Saturday’s game that was No. 7 on Sportscenter’s Top 10 Plays.

Rucker has put together a solid senior campaign for the Red Wolves with a .306 batting average that ranks second on the team. He has hit a team-high four triples, which is also tied for the league lead, and has four doubles, three homers, and a team-best 33 RBI, which ranks as fourth most in the conference. He’s also got the second most steals on the team with 10 and is tied for second in most walks with 24.

Arkansas State returns to action Tuesday, April 11 in a midweek contest at regional rival Memphis. First pitch from FedExPark is set for 6:30 p.m.
