JONESBORO, Ark. (4/12/17) – The Arkansas State women’s basketball team has announced the signing of Morgan Wallace (Pulaski Academy) and Peyton Martin (Watson Chapel) to National Letters of Intent to continue their collegiate careers with the Red Wolves next season.

“It was fun to follow both Morgan and Peyton throughout their senior seasons,” A-State head coach Brian Boyer said. “We are adding two very talented individuals that come from two highly respected programs in the state and I know they are well prepared as athletes and will have a smooth transition to the college game.”

Martin helped guide Watson Chapel to a 30-3 overall record that concluded with a victory over Little Rock Parkview in the 5A state tournament championship game. She was named the tournament MVP and finished the season by averaging 14 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two assists per game.

As a junior in 2016, she also led Watson Chapel to the 5A state championship and was also named the tournament’s MVP. For her career she was a four-time All-State selection, four time all-conference pick and a two time 5A All-Tournament team and 5A State Tournament MVP pick.

“What really stands out about Peyton is her versatility,” Boyer said. “I foresee her being a match-up problem because she has really good size and athletic ability if she were to play at a guard position and her quickness and perimeter skills will allow her to be a difficult match-up at the forward position.  Peyton had a tremendous senior season and the bigger the game the better Peyton played.”

Wallace helped lead Pulaski Academy to a 30-4 overall record and 13-1 record in the 5A Central conference. Her team advanced to the semifinals of the 5A state tournament and earned a No. 13 ranking as the best girls’ basketball team in the state of Arkansas by MaxPreps.com.

“The guard play in the Sun Belt Conference has become extremely fast and quick so I’m excited to add Morgan to our roster because she fits that style,” Boyer said. “Morgan really excels in the open court because of her speed and floor vision.  She has the ability to impact all areas of the game in that she’s a very good passer, she has the ability to score in different ways, has the potential to be a very good defender and also a good rebounder from the guard position.”

Wallace has earned numerous accolades throughout her career that have included being named to the All-MaxPreps team, a McDonald’s Full Court award finalist and a Downtown Little Rock Tip-off Club Players of the Week honor.

She also has been named to the Arkansas Activities Association 5A All-State team in each of the previous seasons and was named the MVP and to the All-Tournament at the Destin Classic in Florida earlier this season.

As a sophomore, Wallace helped the Bruins reach the finals of the class 5A state tournament, where she was named to the All-Tournament team and was named to the MaxPreps All-Arkansas second team. In addition to basketball, Wallace has also been a member of the Pulaski Academy soccer team where she has been named to the All-State team in each of the previous two seasons.
