IOWA CITY, Iowa (4/16/17) – Led by three players posting a top-25 individual finish, the Arkansas State men’s golf team completed play Sunday at the Hawkeye Invitational tied for fifth place among 14 teams after shooting a 54-hole 874.

The Red Wolves recorded an opening-round 289 at Finkbine Golf Course and followed with a 292 and 293 for the second and third rounds, respectively.  A-State, ranked No. 93 in the nation by, finished 17 strokes ahead of 83rd-ranked Minnesota and also defeated teams such as Kansas State, Nebraska, Denver and Utah.

Iowa State, the No. 52 team in the nation, finished just six strokes ahead of the Red Wolves, while No. 11 Texas Tech claimed the tournament title with an 855.  Host school and No. 71 Iowa finished runner-up with an 859 and No. 43 Kansas placed third with an 868.

A-State was led by Andrew Huseman, who collected his fifth top-15 finish of the season.  The junior finished tied for 11th with a 216 (72-73-71), which included a final-round 71 that tied the lowest single-round score of the tournament by an Arkansas State player.

Zan Luka Stirn also picked up his fifth top-15 showing of the year, finishing tied for 15th with a 217.  The freshman carded a 71 for each of the first two rounds before shooting a 75 to close out play.

Tanner Napier, a junior, finished tied for 21st with a 218 (75-71-72) and a low round of 71.  He now has seven top-25 outings this season.

Also competing for the Red Wolves, Joel Wendin finished tied for 43rd place with a 223 (71-77-75) and Matthew Cole tied for 68th with a 230 (76-77-77).

Arkansas State returns to action April 23-25 at the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
