A-State Ready for First Meet on New Track Surface
JONESBORO, Ark. (4/20/17) – The Arkansas State track and field program is set to host the Red Wolves Open this weekend at the newly-resurfaced A-State Track & Field Complex.
The track was resurfaced over the summer and will see its first competition Friday and Saturday. A-State will welcome nine other schools for the meet that is scheduled to begin Friday at 3:00 with the women’s hammer throw competition. Schools entered to compete are; Arkansas State (M/W), Arkansas Tech (W), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (M/W), Coahoma Community College (M/W), Freed-Hardeman (M), Grambling (M/W), Little Rock (M/W), Memphis (M/W), Rust College (M/W) and SEMO (M).
Scheduled for Friday are the men’s and women’s hammer throw, men’s and women’s long jump, men’s and women’s javelin throw and men’s pole vault. On the track, the men’s and women’s 200-meter dash is set for 5:45 p.m. followed by the men’s and women’s 5,000-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Action on Saturday is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. with the men’s shot put and men’s discus throw with the women’s competition to follow. Men’s high jump and men’s triple jump, with the women to follow, and women’s pole vault begin at noon. The rolling schedule on the track begins with the women’s 4x100-meter relay at noon.
A-State enters the weekend with seven student-athletes ranked in the top-50 of the national rankings. Senior thrower Erin Farmer ranks fourth in the shot put (17.93m/58-10.00) and Jaylen Bacon is also in the top-10 nationally with a 100-meter dash rank of seventh (10.17). Bacon also ranks high in the 200-meter dash, checking in a 18th with a time of 20.61 seconds.
High jumpers Darragh May and Tiaan Steenkamp rank top-50 in their respective rankings. May is 20th in the women’s rankings with a clearance of 1.80m (5-10.75) while Steenkamp is 42nd on the men’s side with a jump of 2.11m (6-11.00). Elsewhere in field events, Crisitan Ravar Ladislau is ranked 24th in the hammer throw (66.46m/218-00.00), Viktoriia Sadokhina is 26th in triple jump (12.89m/42-03.50) and Michael Carr is 28th in pole vault (5.22m/17-01.50).
