JONESBORO, Ark. (4/25/17) – Arkansas State tennis coach Kel Lange has announced the signing of Anita Detlava to continue her collegiate career with the Red Wolves beginning with the 2017-18 season.

Detlava spent the previous two seasons at St. Petersburg College in Florida where she achieved a No. 14 ranking in the International Tennis Association (ITA) JUCO singles’ standings. During her time with the Titans she has compiled a 29-13 overall record in singles’ competition, and helped the school to the No. 3 overall ranking in latest standings released on April 20.

“I think the fact that she is top-20 in the national junior college rankings and plays No. 1 on the third ranked junior college team in the country is a testament to her talent and discipline,” Lange said. “Anita sees the vision that we have, and has the fortitude to carry it out. She is battle tested and will be an important part of our success the next two years.”

This past season she had an 18-6 overall record with victories over some of the nation’s top-ranked JUCO talent. She recently defeated No. 46 Sarah Manseri of No. 6 Seward County Community College 6-4, 6-0 and also has a win over No. 16 Iulia Sergheeva of No. 7 State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota.

Detlava has split her time between the No. 1 and No. 2 position for the Titans, but excelled as one half of the team’s top doubles’ pairing. She and her playing partner have achieved the No. 7 ranking on the JUCO circuit and defeated the nation’s top-team of Maria Medina and Sergheeva 8-6 on Feb. 23.

She will be immediately eligible and will begin competition in the fall for the Red Wolves.
