SACRAMENTO, Calif. (6/21/17) – A total of four current and former Arkansas State track and field athletes will compete at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships and the USATF Junior Championships this week in Sacramento, Calif.
Current A-State junior Jaylen Bacon (100m dash) and alumni Erin Farmer (shot put) and Sharika Nelvis (100m hurdles) will compete for national titles and spots on Team USA at the World Championships in London in August. A-State freshman Hayden Hampton (decathlon) will take part in the USATF Junior Championships, which are limited to athletes who do not turn 20 years old until at least 2018.
Bacon ranks seventh among the accepted entries in the 100-meter dash with a best wind legal time of 10.00 seconds. The first round of the 100-meter dash gets underway Thursday at 8:35 p.m. (CT) with the semifinals at 7:31 p.m. (CT) and finals at 10:02 p.m. (CT) on Friday.
Nelvis ranks fifth among the entries in the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best of 12.58 seconds. The 2014 NCAA National Champion will open her competition at 6:50 p.m. (CT) Friday. The semifinals and finals will be contested on Saturday with the semifinals at 3:05 p.m. (CT) and finals at 4:54 p.m. (CT).
Farmer is one of 10 women to throw over 18.00m in shot put this season. She carries a season best of 18.12m (59-05.50) into the event Saturday at 2:30 p.m. (CT). Hampton enters USATF Junior Championships with a season best decathlon point total of 6,745 points. He is one of 12 individuals in the event that begins 12:20 p.m. (CT) on Thursday with the 100m dash.
