JONESBORO, Ark. (6/26/17) - Arkansas State track and field junior sprinter Jaylen Bacon earned his spot as a member of the 4x100m relay pool to represent the United States at the IAAF World Championships in August. 

Bacon finished fourth in the 100m dash at the USA Outdoor Championships last weekend. He opened by winning his first round heat in 10.01 seconds to rank fifth among those to advance to the semifinals. In the semis, he had a time of 10.15 seconds to rank third and easily advance to the final. He finished fourth in the final with a time of 10.10 seconds, just shy of the autmoatic qualifer to London for the World Championships. USA Track & Field later announced they were taking the top six finishers to the World Championships as members of the 4x100m relay pool. 

Senior shot putter Erin Farmer and freshman Hayden Hampton also competed at the USA Outdoor Championships. Farmer logged a sixth place finish in the shot put with a best throw of 17.72m (58-01.75). Hampton, competing in the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships, ranked eighth with a total of 6,177 points. A-State alumnus Sharika Nelvis also competed in Sacramento, finishing fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 12.80 seconds. 

The 2017 IAAF World Championships are scheduled for Aug. 4-13 in London.
