JONESBORO, Ark. (11/19/17) – Arkansas State junior Carlisa May was named to the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Volleyball All-Tournament Team the league announced at the conclusion of the event Sunday afternoon.
A native of Lee’s Summit, Mo., May earned her third career SBC All-Tournament selection in as many years, including the MVP award in 2015. She totaled 36 kills in A-State’s two matches for a 5.14 per average on a .261 hitting percentage. Additionally, she added two digs and four blocks on defense.
The outside hitter opened the tournament with 16 kills on a .278 percentage along with two blocks in the Red Wolves’ sweep versus Troy. May followed with a 20-kill performance against Coastal Carolina on a .250 hitting percentage to register her eighth match of 20 or more kills this season.
A-State is currently 20-11 to mark the fourth straight season of 20 or more wins for head coach David Rehr’s program. The Red Wolves also advanced to the SBC Tournament semifinals for the sixth straight campaign after not earning a win in the event for 11 years prior to his arrival in 2012.
Top seed Coastal Carolina won Sunday’s championship over second-seeded Texas State 3-1 and earned the Sun Belt’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
