ARLINGTON, Texas (2/2/18) – The third-ranked Arkansas State women’s bowling team finished atop the standings after day one of the Prairie View A&M Invitational at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas.
Through five, five-game Baker matches, the Red Wolves are undefeated, ending the day in first place with a total pinfall of 5,204. The squad faced host No. 25 Prairie View A&M during game one and defeated them 1,045-963. They then went into a tough battle with No. 4 Vanderbilt and came out on top by a score of 1,077-1,041 as that momentum ran them past No. 12 Sacred Heat University 1,043-976 in their third match of the day.
In match four, the Red Wolves rolled their lowest total of the day but still took the match against No. 17 North Carolina A&T, 991-837. A-State closed the night with a 1,048-1,001 victory over No.7 Stephen F. Austin to remain unblemished in the event.
Arkansas State, along with Sam Houston State (5,165), who is in second place, were the only undefeated teams at the end of day one. Sacred Heart (5,040), Stephen F. Austin (5,003) and Vanderbilt (4,996) close out the top five.
Day two rolls off at 9:25 a.m. with five games of traditional matches as A-State (50-20) will face No. 1 Nebraska, who was last years’ winner of the tournament. They will also face McKendree, Maryland Eastern Shore, Fairleigh Dickinson and Louisiana Tech.
