JONESBORO, Ark. (2/3/18) – The Arkansas State University track and field squad split up with athletes competing at the New Mexico Classic and Don DeNoon Invitational this weekend. The Red Wolves left the two meets with three event wins and a total of 28 top-10 finishes.
Jaylen Bacon posted a season best in the 60-meter dash clocking a time of 6.62 seconds to win the event. His time moves him into the top five nationally. Elijah Ross tied his personal-best in that race with a time of 6.77 seconds to place fifth. Calea Carr won the weight throw competition with a throw of 19.01m (62-04.50). Carr placed seventh overall, fifth among collegiate competitors, in the shot put with a mark of 13.53m (44-04.75).
Michael Carr placed third in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.28m (17-03.75). His mark is a personal best and is just shy of the top-10 marks in program history while he continues to lead the Sun Belt Conference performance list and moves into the top 20 nationally. Itamar Levi finished third in the shot put with a mark of 19.15m (62-10.00). Anaelle Charles finished 13th in the 800m run, but her time of 2:12.87 set a personal best and ranks third in program history. She continues to pace the Sun Belt Conference in the event.
Others finishing top 10 at New Mexico included; Darragh May (4th – high jump | 1.71m/5-07.25), Cristian Ravar Ladislau (5th – weight throw | 19.13m/62-09.25), Tiaan Steenkamp (5th – high jump | 2.07m/6-09.50), Jaylen Bacon (6th – 200m dash | 21.15), David Phillips (6th – high jump | 2.02m/6-07.50), Jamil Peeples (8th – 60m hurdles | 8.35), Heinrich Herbst (9th – 800m run | 1:54.28), Carter Shell (9th – triple jump | 13.58m/44-06.75), Eric Williams (9th – shot put | 15.26m/50-00.75) and Cristian Ravar Ladislau (10th – shot put | 14.92m/48-11.50). 17
At the Don DeNoon Invitational hosted by SIU, Cameron Stalnaker won the men’s pole vault competition with a clearance of 4.90m (16-00.75). The clearance is a personal best and moves him into the top six on the Sun Belt Conference performance list.
Additional top-10 finishes at SIU were earned by; Pauline Meyer (3rd – 800m run | 2:19.80), Greta Carlberg (4th – 1000m run | 3:02.01), Danielle Lorenz (4th – shot put | 13.96m/45-09.75), Pauline Meyer (4th – mile run | 5:09.56), Amari James (5th – 60m hurdles | 8.43), Jacob Oury (6th – 800m run | 1:58.34), Amari James (7th – triple jump | 12.45m/40-10.25), Lauren Smith (7th – pole vault | 3.36m/11-0.25), Sophia Gentile (8th – 800m run | 2:24.57) and Kden Johnson (9th – 400m dash | 51.71).
The Red Wolves return to action next weekend in Birmingham, Ala., for the Samford Open in the final test ahead of the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 19-20. The Samford Open is held at the Birmingham Cross Plex which also serves as the host site of the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships.
