RIO VERDE, Ariz. (02/23/18) – The Arkansas State women’s golf team finished the first round of the Rio Verde Invitational Friday in sixth place among 17 teams at the Quail Run Golf Course.

The Red Wolves, who posted a score of 311 after the first 18 holes, sit only one stroke back from being tied for 5th place with Bradley, which recorded a 310. A-State ended the day just six strokes behind the tournament’s leader, Little Rock, which carded a 305. Arkansas State currently has two players inside the top-25 among a field that includes 97 individual players.

Senior Sarah Childers leads the team after carding a first-round 75, and is tied for ninth place, while junior Aracelly Jimenez Rios is tied for 15th after posting a 76.

Also competing for the Red Wolves, sophomore Grayson Gladden tied for 41st after carding a 79, while junior Beth Ann Compton registered an 81 to finish tied for 52nd. Senior Emma Miller completed the first round tied for 77th with a score of 85.

The Rio Verde Invitational will continue Saturday with the second round of play.
